Athens will give Greek nationality to the Greek minority living in Albania

Beginning today the Greek minority in Albania will have double nationality. The government accepted after today’s meeting, the draft law proposed by the interior minister Prokopis Pvllopulos and Foreign minister Dora Bakojani. The draft proposed by the two ministers wants Athens to give Greek nationality to the Greek minority in Albania. After the approval of this draft the 120 thousand Greek minorities in Albania will have both Greek and Albanian nationality. Dora Bakojani said they are not aiming at wining votes in the next elections and called this a historic decision. The Greek authorities said they had also met with the Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha before taking this decision.
