Berisha: Council of Europe appreciated the progresses of Albania; bicitizenship, a positive step
After an appointment he had with the European Commission Ambassador, Helmut Lohan, Premier Sali Berisha, declared that the European Commission in its report has appreciated the progresses of Albania during democratic governance. He pointed out that even he yet hasn't read the report published by Oli Rehn, according to the dates presented by Ambassador Lohan, Albania has made progresses in fulfilling of the requested standards by the EU.
Premier also commented the case of giving the Greek citizenship to the Greek minority that lives in Albania. He called a positive step the Athens government decision, but he pointed out that this decision isn't valid for those who live inside Albanian territory. "I think Greece and other EU contries, must give as soon as possible the citizenship to immigrats that live and work in those countries. It isn't the passport which determines the nationality and the national identity. So I see it like a decision that will help those citizens. The decision is valid for those minoritary people who live and work in hellenic land and not for those who live in Albania" said Mr Berisha.
