European Commission to release Western Balkans countries progress reports

The European Commission will make public Wednesday the seven reports on the progress made by Western Balkans countries regarding their EU integration processes.EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn had reiterated that Western Balkans countries shouldn't be discouraged by the EC reports, despite some slowdowns in the integration processes this year.

EC will submit seven reports on Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo. The report on Macedonia, according to anonymous diplomatic source, will indicate that no accession talks data will be determined although Macedonia was granted candidate country status in 2005.

Serbia launched Stabilisation and Association Agreement talks in October last year. However, they were interrupted in May due to Belgrade's lack of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. Still, EC is due to recommend visa regime facilitation for the citizens of Serbia.

The report on Bosnia will indicate police's reform slowdown.Croatia, the only Western Balkans' country with EU membership talks underway, should "try harder" before accessing the EU.Moreover, the European Commission had announced that after Bulgaria and Romania's accession, the Union would halt the enlargement until overcoming the institutional crisis since France and Netherlands had rejected the European Constitution
