Moisiu to the judges: The agression of the political corruption has increased; close the doors to politicans

The President of Albania Alfred Moisiu has accepted the political agression against the Judicial Power and has invited the judges to close the doors to such a phenomenon. In his speech in the “National Judicial Conference” the president said: “In 2002 I have told you to close the doors to the politics. Now I see that the agression of political corruption has increased. This requires from you not only to close the doors but also to denounce the blackmail cases on the part of different politicans. There are still great problems as to the independance of the judges in applying justice, in connection too, with the troubling and widely discussed problem of corruption. I am against the thought of some who say that the judicial system is corrupted and that Albanian courts do not apply justice. On the other hand I am conscious and I accept that there are corrupted judges, judges not applying justice or judges easily influenced in apllying justice.”

Then he continued saying: “There are still great problems in the application of judicial functions influenced by politics and other powers, as I have defined the political corruption. The political corruption is not less, if not more, dangerous than the economic one. To resist it not only moral purity but also civil and profesional courage.” He invited the judges that they themselves fight this great problem for the Albanian people.
