The jurists: The change of the election date can not be discussed!

The makers of the Constitution and other jurists have denied the suggestion of the opposition for the postponing of the elections regarding this as a constitutional right of the president. According to them the election date can be changed only in case of a consensus between the political parties and in case this kconsensus is accepted by the president.

The jurist Luan Omari said in a prounanciation for media that up to now there is only one precedent of the election date change but this is of a distant time since it corresponds to the transition period of 1991.

“I think that th postponing of the election date depends on the president of the republic and a consensus between the political parties. Despite the consensus arrived at between the political parties it is the president who decides,” he said.

In a more definite manner has spoken the head of the Constitutional Court Rustem Gjata according to whom the decree of the president on the election date can not be discussed. “Even in case of consensus between political parties it is the president who decides. The election date is an exclusive right of the president and it is him who decides about it, even if the political forces may find a consensus,” said Gjata.
